Easy Kitchen Clock Makeover

We are in the process of doing a small, taking forever reno in our kitchen. We installed bead board on one wall, which I, alone, caulked the seams and painted.  I stripped the wall paper on a second wall which is waiting patiently to be painted.  Yesterday we painted the ceiling.  Worst job ever!  So glad that's done.

Anyway we had this watermelon clock.  I wasn't planning on putting it back on the wall since there are three other clocks, microwave, stove and coffee maker.  Plus we have a faux train station clock hanging between our dining area and living room.  Our upstairs is open concept (okay, I've been watching way too much HGTV), so you can see this clock from the kitchen too.  Seriously why would you need another one?

The hubs didn't see it that way.  He wanted it back because, and I quote, "it's the clock I look at when I'm getting ready for work".  Really???  You can't just turn your head a wee bit and look at a different one?  Like they say, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks".  So, I gave in.  But, it needed a makeover.
  First I took it apart.

I spray painted the green outer rim black.  I took out the watermelon backing which was basically like a piece of cardstock.  I measured the circle, picked out a piece of scrapbook paper from my stash and cut the circle using my Cricut.

I placed the old backing over the new, traced the circle for the center, cut it out and put it in place.

I did have to remove the hands to replace the backing.  I was a little nervous, but there was nothing to it.  Everything snapped back into place nicely.  I used stickers for the numbers.

Here it is hanging on our new bead board.  Just a little teaser for you.

Other than my time (pun intended), this new clock didn't cost me a dime.

Another teaser for the kitchen.  I picked out the back splash and ordered it yesterday.  We are going with tin.  I chose the finish on the left, Antique Brushed Nickle in the pattern on the right.  Got it?

These are just samples.  The actual pieces are 24" x 24" with a 6" pattern.  I'm so excited, I can't stand it!

Thanks for visiting.

    1. It's coming along, a little more slowly than I'd like, but doesn't it always.

  2. Lovely redo on the clock! I agree with you on painting ceilings - it's so tedious and difficult to get the paint even, but I'm always so happy when it's done! Thanks so much for stopping by and I am following you back. Blessings!

I love the clock re- do and isn't it funny about men????
And i aodre your back splash. We thought about going with a copper type tin one but since there are no windows in my Kitchen, it would just make my dark Kitchen, even darker...Can't wait to see the reveal and i am guessing that you can't wait either!! LOL!!
